Shelfspace Scholarship Program

The Capilano Excellence Schoalrships (CAPX), known as the Board Entrance Scholarships, are the premier entrance scholarships awarded by Capilano University. The Lovison Family Memorial Scholarship is meant to encourage and support young people of the Catholic faith who strive for excellence in post-secondary education. Selection criteria:
1) Applicants must be residents of the Lower Mainland.
2) Applicants must be Roman Catholic and of Italian-Canadian origin.
3) Applicants must be grade 12 students who expect to graduate with a 3.0 (B) grade point average or higher. An official B.C. Ministry of Education transcript of final marks must accompany the application.
4) Applicants are expected, upon high school graduation, to attend a university or community college where studies will lead to a university degree in Canada or in another country.

For each scholarship application, students must submit the following: application form, resume, transcript, cover letter, activity sheet, teacher reference letters, volunteer reference letters (document years of volunteering, months, dates and hours, and the nature of work you did, be specific).
Burnaby Arts Council Scholarship
The Burnaby Art Council offers one ARTS scholarship worth $300.00 to a graduating student in each of the secondary schools in Burnaby. Scholarships will be awarded to students who are continuing in a full-time accredited post-secondary program with concentration in the arts. The scholarship is awarded to a student who has:
- Shown excellence and achievement in the arts (performing, visual or literary) in school curricular and extra curricular programs and motivation to develop their ability. Additional consideration will be given for community involvement.
- Exhibit a good academic record with letters of commendation.

Burnaby South War Memorial Honour Roll Bursary
This bursary is awarded in recognition and memory of the young men and women from Burnaby who fought for Canada in World War 2. Given to two deserving Burnaby secondary school graduates, students need to have continually shown the values associated with good citizenship – caring, sharing, responsibility, and a willingness to help others. To be considered,
- students must be a Canadian citizen and have graduated from a School District 41 secondary school
- have a desire to continue his/her education at a post secondary institution in Canada and have been accepted to attend a post secondary institution
- have been nominated for the award by the staff of the school

Burnaby Civic Employees’ -Cupe Local 23 Scholarship
The Cupe Local 23 Scholarship is awarded to one student in each of Burnaby’s secondary schools who meets the following criteria:
- Maintained a good academic standing
- Demonstrated good citizenship in school and the community
- Participated in volunteer activities
Scholarship will be awarded to a student who is going on to a BC post secondary or vocational training program. Consideration should be given to a student with financial need. Deadline is March 17, 2010, Career Centre.
Ted Elphick Memorial Bursary
In recognition of Ted Elphick, a dedicated educator whose leadership and contribution to the education of challenged students provided a professional legacy for which the Burnaby School District can be proud and thankful.
The Ted Elphick Memorial Bursary is awarded annually to a Burnaby resident who has, through positive will and spirit, overcome physical or mental challenges to graduate from a Burnaby secondary school. To be considered for the award the student should have:
- been enrolled in a Burnaby school for five years;
- demonstrated ability and desire to be a life long learner and continue his or her education at a post secondary institution or in a recognized training program;
- been nominated for the award by the school scholarship committee.

Dawn Harris Memorial Scholarship
This scholarship is awarded to a well-rounded female graduating student from Alpha or Burnaby North Secondary School who, while maintaining a good academic standing, has demonstrated good citizenship and leadership skills and has actively participated in the school’s athletic program. To be considered for the award the student should have:
- been enrolled in a Burnaby school for the two (2) senior years
- maintained a good academic standing
- been involved in the school’s athletic program
- demonstrated outstanding citizenship and strong leadership skills in the school
- formally submitted an application form to the Dawn Harris Memorial Scholarship Committee
- demonstrated plans to continue with education in a post secondary program
The scholarship will be awarded upon proof of registration in a post secondary institution.

Ikon Office Solutions Scholarship
This scholarship is awarded to a student who, while maintaining a good academic standing has made a significant contribution to the school by demonstrating good citizenship and involvement in school activities. To be considered for the award the student should have:
- demonstrated good citizenship
- been actively involved in school service
- maintained a good academic standing
- formally submitted an application form to Burnaby School District’s Scholarship Committee
The scholarship will be awarded upon proof of registration in a post secondary program at BCIT. Students must claim the award within two (2) years of graduating from secondary school. Consideration will be given to a student with financial need.

Metropolis at Metrotown Scholarship
This scholarship is awarded to a well-rounded student who, while maintaining a good academic standing, has demonstrated good citizenship and leadership skills through voluntary participation in school and community activities. To be considered for the award the student should have:
- been enrolled in a Burnaby school for the two (2) senior years
- provided evidence of current employment, including letters of reference attesting to the student’s work ethic
- been actively involved in community service and/or volunteer work
- demonstrated good citizenship and strong leadership skills
- maintained a good academic standing
- formally submitted an application form to Burnaby School District’s Scholarship Committee
The scholarship will be awarded upon proof of registration in a post secondary institution.

Parkcrest Children’s Centre Scholarship
This scholarship is awarded to a past student of Parkcrest Children’s Centre who is a well-rounded student who, while maintaining a good academic standing, has participated in school and community activities. To be considered for the award the student should have:
- proof of attendance at Parkcrest Childcare Society (Parkcrest Children’s Centre) for a period of at least one year
- been enrolled in a Burnaby school for the two (2) senior years
- provided evidence of volunteer or work experience, including letters of reference attesting to the student’s work ethic
- been actively involved in community service and/or volunteer work
- demonstrated god citizenship and leadership skills
- maintained a good academic standing
- formally submitted an application form to the Burnaby School District’s Scholarship Committe.
Note: the scholarship monies will be paid to the recipient upon proof of registration in a post secondary institution. The recipient must be registered in a post secondary institution within 18 months of their school graduation or the award will expire.

Royal Arch Masonic Home Education Scholarship
This scholarship is awarded to a well-rounded student who seeks a career in Health Care and while maintaining a good academic standing, has demonstrated good citizenship and leadership skills through voluntary participation in assisting older adults in the community. To be considered for the award the student should have:
- been enrolled in a Burnaby school for the two (2) senior years
- maintained a good academic standing
- demonstrated an interest in pursuing a career in Health Care
- demonstrated community service assisting older adults
- demonstrated good citizenship and strong leadership skills in the school and the community (excluding work experience)
- formally submitted an application form to Burnaby School District’s Scholarship Committee
The scholarship will be awarded upon proof of registration in a post secondary institution.

Marjorie Jane Stephenson – Education Scholarship
This scholarship is awarded to a well-rounded student who seeks a career in Health Care and while maintaining a good academic standing, has demonstrated good citizenship and leadership skills through voluntary participation in assisting older adults in the community. To be considered for the award the student should have:
- been enrolled in a Burnaby school for the two (2) senior years
- maintained a good academic standing
- demonstrated an interest in pursuing a career in Health Care
- demonstrated community service assisting older adults
- demonstrated good citizenship and strong leadership skills in the school and the community
- formally submitted an application form to Burnaby School District’s Scholarship Committee
The scholarship will be awarded to the successful candidate upon proof of registration in a post secondary institution.

The Vancouver Port Corporation Scholarship is awarded annually to a well rounded student who meets the following criteria:
